6 bells miners memorial
Six Bells Colliery was a coal mine located in Six Bells, Abertillery, Monmouthshire, South Wales, in the United Kingdom. On June 28, 1960 it was the site of an underground explosion which killed 45 local miners. It is now the site of an artistically acclaimed memorial to those events, designed by Sebastian Boyesen, and although the memorial is primarily to those who died in Six Bells, it also commemorates human losses in the entire South Wales coalfield.

Six Bells Pit Demolition 1989
'The Guardian of The Valleys' is the name of the statue seen in this video. It was erected in 2010 in memory of the 1960 pit disaster at Six Bells Pit in which 45 men died underground in an explosion. My thanks to 'Stilltyd', the person who made the original video (I just edited it).

Luke Rees | Motivational Speech at Abertillery Learning Community
Luke was invited to speak at the Abertillery Learning Community during a Year 10 Assembly. Luke was asked to raise the aspirations of the current year 10 cohort. They are a very good year group and they could potentially get us the best results the school has ever seen. Luke' aim was to try and instil the importance of starting with a sound work ethic in the build up to their exams. If you want to inspire your school pupils to reach and achieve their full potential then you contact Luke via Lukenrees@me.com or https://www.lukerees.co.uk/speaking Want to follow Luke? Cwm Coke Works - Beddau, South Wales, June 2014
The Cwm Coke Works is a large site just north of Beddau in Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales. Originally the site was home to the Cwm Colliery which opened in 1909. In 1958 the Cwm Colliery expanded and the Cwm Coke Works opened. At its peak, the Cwm Colliery was producing hundreds of thousands of tons of high quality, low sulphur coal per year. Much of this was processed at the Cwm Coke Works, into high-grade coke suitable for foundry use. The National Coal Board closed the Cwm Colliery in 1986, and Cwm Coke Works in 2002. Since then the site has pretty much been neglected. The footage in the above video was taken June 2014.
